As most people are aware, Girona and Manchester City are both part of the City Football Group.
Due to this, a number of players have played for both clubs – Savio most notably.
This is not something we can expect to see go away any time soon, even if the credibility and ethics are often questioned.
In fact, this is already being proved correct.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Girona have agreed a deal to sign Vitor Reis on loan from Manchester City.
The Brazilian defender joined from Palmeiras in January, but has found game time hard to come by.
From January until the end of the domestic season, he played just 136 minutes for City.
At the Club World Cup, he played 90 minutes against Wydad Casablanca, but did not feature in any other game.
There is little point to him sitting on the bench for another 12 months – especially in a World Cup year.
A loan to Girona gives him the opportunity to play games in a competitive league.
The likes of the previously mentioned Savio have developed well under the guidance of Girona manager Michel.
There is no reason why that couldn’t be the same for Reis, he is clearly a very talented player.
He would get the chance to learn from the experienced Daley Blind – another ball playing defender.
Last season, Girona finished 16th – just one point off relegation. They will be hoping signings like Reis will improve things next season.
