Troops of Operation Hadin Kai deployed in Kawuri, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, have successfully repelled an insurgent attack launched from the Sambisa Forest in the early hours of Tuesday.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the battle, which lasted for about two hours, ended with the insurgents retreating after suffering heavy casualties.
The source said reinforcement troops encountered an ambush on their way to support their colleagues but swiftly cleared the area, enabling them to join the ongoing operation.
In a show of solidarity, the Commander of 21 Special Armoured Brigade visited the troops after the encounter, commending their bravery and urging them to remain steadfast in their duties.
The Commander also visited the family of a victim who lost their life to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the insurgents during the attack. He assured the family of the militaryâs support while emphasizing the need to sustain troop morale.
