Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully repelled an attempted attack by suspected operatives of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Gaidam in Yobe State.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday when ISWAP operatives were sighted approaching the town from its eastern axis. This prompted a swift military response, resulting in a heavy exchange of gunfire that lasted approximately two hours.
The determined efforts of the troops forced the terrorists to retreat, preventing them from penetrating the town or causing any harm to residents.
During a subsequent search of the area on Tuesday morning, the troops discovered traces of blood at the scene, suggesting casualties among the fleeing insurgents. Two rifles abandoned by the terrorists were also recovered.
In addition, the insurgents planted an improvised explosive device (IED) aimed at targeting the troops. However, the device was safely neutralized by the military, averting any potential damage.Tap Here To Read Full Details
