U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the United States has “completely decimated” Iran militarily and economically, while urging countries that rely on oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz to take greater responsibility for securing the waterway.
Trump made the remarks in a statement addressing the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the global importance of maintaining safe passage through the strategic strait.
“The United States of America has beaten and completely decimated Iran, both militarily, economically, and in every other way,” Trump said.
The U.S. president added that countries that depend on oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz should play a greater role in protecting the vital maritime corridor.
According to him, the United States would assist and coordinate with those nations to ensure that shipping through the passage continues without disruption.
“The countries of the world that receive oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage, and we will help — a lot,” Trump said, adding that the United States would work closely with partner nations to ensure the process moves “quickly, smoothly, and well.”
Trump further stated that the responsibility for safeguarding the route should have always been a collective effort among nations dependent on the energy supplies passing through the strait.
“This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be,” he said, adding that such cooperation could bring the world together toward “harmony, security, and everlasting peace.”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, with a significant portion of global crude oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to international markets.
