U.S. President Donald J. Trump says he held a “very good” meeting at the White House with several world leaders and international officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to Trump, the talks focused on security guarantees for Ukraine, with commitments expected from European partners in coordination with the United States. He described the discussions as an “early step” toward peace in the nearly four-year-long Russia–Ukraine war.
Trump further revealed that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the meeting and that preparations are underway for a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy at a location yet to be determined. He added that a trilateral summit involving both leaders and himself would follow.
Trump said Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are currently coordinating with both Russia and Ukraine to advance the process.
“This was a very good, early step for a war that has been going on for almost four years,” Trump said.
