A former spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Nayyera Haq, has said former U.S. President Donald Trump made a major strategic miscalculation in the current conflict by assuming Israel was the only key ally Washington needed.

Haq, who is also a journalist and political analyst, said Trump appeared to rely heavily on Israel and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, without adequately considering the differing interests of other regional states.

According to her, several countries in the Middle East are not interested in fully aligning with Washington or joining the war, despite rising tensions in the region.

Haq warned that the conflict has already expanded beyond its initial scope, with missile and drone strikes reported against U.S. and Israeli military bases and the involvement of additional actors across the region.

She further cautioned that the United States could face domestic political and economic consequences if the conflict drags on.

The analyst noted that public tolerance in the United States for prolonged foreign wars is limited, suggesting that a continued escalation could generate significant political pressure within the country.

Her remarks come as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, with global leaders and analysts expressing concern about the possibility of a wider regional confrontation.
