In a remarkable academic feat, twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have emerged as the best graduating students from the University of Ibadan’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering — both earning a first-class degree with an identical CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00.

The duo, who also topped the entire Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session, have become a source of inspiration and admiration across social media and academic circles alike.

Sharing their journey via X (formerly Twitter), Matthias described their success as the product of consistent hard work, determination, and strong leadership values. From their early days at UI, the brothers stood out academically — finishing their first year with CGPAs of 3.84 (Matthias) and 3.89 (Matthew), and going on to consistently raise the bar through each level.

Their academic progression speaks volumes:

200 Level: 3.92 (Matthias), 3.94 (Matthew)

300 Level: 3.95 (Matthias), 3.93 (Matthew)

400 Level: 3.94 (Matthias), 3.93 (Matthew)

500 Level: Both brothers finished with a stellar 3.94 CGPA

In a heartfelt post, Matthew reflected on the moment he delivered the induction speech as the Best Graduating Student of the Faculty of Technology, calling the experience “surreal” and attributing their success to grace rather than perfection.

Truth be told, this still feels surreal,” he wrote. “My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students; far from it. But for some reason, we are here.”

Beyond academics, the brothers also made significant impacts through leadership. Matthias served as the Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the Students’ Representative Council, while Matthew led the Society of Electronic and Electrical Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) as President for the 2023/2024 session.

Their story continues to motivate many, serving as a powerful reminder that excellence is achievable — even twice, and side by side.
