Two Killed, Several Injured In Hausa-Fulani Communal Clash In Jigawa

Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons and injuries to several others following a communal clash between Hausa and Fulani groups in Agufa Village, Miga Local Government Area of the state....TAP HERE TO READ THE FULL STORY..>>

The incident, which occurred on February 17 at about 1:45 p.m., reportedly started as a dispute over alleged acts of mischief attributed to some Fulani youths.

The matter was initially reported to personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who were stationed nearby before the situation escalated into violence.

According to a statement from the police, both groups engaged in an exchange of bows and arrows before security operatives intervened to restore order.

During the clash, four members of the Hausa community identified as Mohammed Haruna (50), Umar Chiroma (30), Inusa Usman (40), and Garba Musa (27) sustained arrow wounds and were rushed to Jahun General Hospital for treatment.

On the Fulani side, two persons, identified as Beti Shanu (27) and Inusa A. Isa (19), were found dead with bullet wounds. Another victim, Muhammed Isah (27), sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to the same hospital, where he is responding to treatment.

The police noted that the NSCDC personnel at the scene before the arrival of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team allegedly fired the shots that resulted in the Fulani casualties.

Following the incident, the police have deployed tactical teams to the area to prevent further escalation. The command also assured that engagements with community leaders and other stakeholders would commence immediately to foster peace and prevent a recurrence.

The Jigawa State Police Command urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
