The United States authorities have arrested five fugitives, including a Nigerian national, accused of involvement in a massive international fraud scheme that allegedly defrauded thousands of victims of more than €300 million in Germany.
The arrests were executed in the Central District of California following a formal request from the German government, which is now seeking the suspects’ extradition.
Those arrested were identified as Medhat Mourid of Woodland Hills; Andrew Garroni of Los Angeles; Guy Mizrachi of Agoura Hills; Ardeshir Akhavan of Irvine; and Tunde Benak, also of Irvine.
German prosecutors allege the suspects operated a sophisticated fraud network that used fake investment platforms and deceptive online trading schemes to swindle unsuspecting victims across Europe.
The suspects are currently in U.S. custody pending extradition proceedings to Germany.
