Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised Real Madrid stars Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe after guiding his team to a 1-0 victory in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night at Anfield.
Naija News reports that a superb second-half strike from Alexis Mac Allister proved to be the difference as Liverpool edged past Xabi Alonso’s men in a tightly contested match.
Despite the win, Arne Slot acknowledged the challenge of facing Madrid’s world-class forwards.
“You can’t control these two players, neither Mbappé nor Vinícius,” Slot told reporters after the game.
“Their best chance was when Vinícius passed to Bellingham. They have very good players across the pitch, and it’s very difficult to completely contain them. We did the best we could with players like Mbappé and Vinícius.”
The Reds now shift attention to the Premier League, where they face Manchester City in a crucial weekend fixture.
Troy Deeney Picks His Top Three Favourites for Champions League Title
Former Watford striker Troy Deeney has tipped Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal as the three clubs most likely to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy this season.
Deeney made the comments while reacting to Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win over defending champions PSG in Paris on Tuesday night.
“I think for all of us we said they would be in our top three: PSG, Bayern Munich and Arsenal [for the trophy],” Deeney told CBS Sports.
“I think we all said those three, and then just how you would order them. I would make the argument that Bayern after today [beating PSG] should be top, but I also think we could make a very good argument that Arsenal should be top; they are top of both leagues. I would argue it is more competitive in the Premier League than it is in the Bundesliga, but Bayern Munich are right up there.”
