FC Barcelona would have felt they missed an opportunity last season.
Whilst Barcelona secured a 28th league title, they were also knocked out of the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage.
An exciting two legged encounter saw Inter Milan advance to the final at the expense of the Catalan side.
With €27.5 million spent on players, and €37.5 earned from player sales, it could be argued that Barcelona have had a quiet recent by their recent standards.
English forward Marcus Rashford has arrived on loan, but there has not been the usual game changer this summer that normally gets paraded around the Nou Camp in years gone by.
Alongside Rashford, the once in a generation talent of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Lewandowski, this Barcelona attack is a scary proposition for any team that faces then this season.
There are alot of people who feel that the club can end their Champions League drought this season, under a manager in Hansi Flick that won the trophy in 2020.
Barcelona last won the Champions League in the 2014/15 season when they boasted the MSN trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar.
There have been some near misses, with collapses against AS Roma and Liverpool in back-to back years.
The club appear to have earmarked a player for the future as they aim to bring back the dominance they once possesses over European football.
Barcelona target Villarreal youngster
According to reports, Barcelona are targeting Villarreal’s 21-year old striker Etta Eyong.
Eyong only made four appearances for the first team last season, but grabbed 19 goals in 30 games for their B-Team in 2023/24.
With Lewandowski turning 37 in five days time, they may be looking at Eyong as the Polish international’s long term replacement.
Lewandowski cannot go on forever, and would be a great player for Eyong to learn from.
