Nottingham Forest are preparing for their first season in Europe since the 1996/97 season.

This is a result of Forest’s seventh place finish last season, where they were just a point and two spots away from the Champions League.

Once a season that was going to feature UEFA Conference League football, they are now set to play in the Europa League due to Crystal Palace’s ownership issues.

Anthony Elanga has left for Newcastle United, but the club have kept the core of players who made them last season’s surprise package.

This includes captain Morgan Gibbs-White, despite Tottenham Hotspur activating his £60 million release clause.

The club will want to avoid how their last season ended, one that should have resulted in Champions League qualification.

Any early struggles and manager Nuno Espírito Santo could face pressure from owner Evangelos Marinakis, who infamously ran onto the pitch to confront him late on in the season.

Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha and Dan Ndoye have arrived at the City Ground for a combined £54.8 million, and the club have identified another addition they could make to the squad.

According to reports, Forest have held talks with Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Once of Manchester City, Luiz joined the Turin side from Aston Villa in June 2024 for a fee of €50 million, with €1.5 million in add-ons.

This move came after five seasons for Villa, where he made 204 appearances.

However, he found minutes hard to come by for Juventus.

Luiz made 27 appearances in 2024/25, totalling 877 minutes in all competitions, an average of 32.48 minutes a game.

He also played more than 45 minutes on six of those 27 matches. This last happened on Febuary 11th.

With plenty of Premier League experience, Luiz will be a welcomed addition to a Forest team that will be playing extra games this season.
