UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has admitted that the Brexit agreement has taken a significant toll on the nation’s economy, urging the country to take a pragmatic approach toward rebuilding stronger ties with the European Union.
“We must all now confront the reality that the Brexit deal has significantly hurt our economy,” Starmer said. “We have to keep moving towards a closer relationship with the EU, and we have to be grown-up about that, to accept that this will require trade-offs.”
Starmer’s remarks signal one of the clearest indications yet that his government may seek deeper cooperation with Brussels, particularly in trade, security, and regulatory alignment, as the UK continues to grapple with economic headwinds and business concerns.
