The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has firmly denied rumours circulating online, particularly on social media, about a large snake being killed inside one of its classrooms. Some reports even claimed the snake was considered a deity.
The university described these claims as completely false, baseless, and the product of mischievous minds.
In a statement signed by Dr. Sammy Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, UNIPORT reassured everyone that no such incident happened on campus.
“No snake was seen, no snake was killed, and there has been no incident like this at the university,” the statement clarified.
Dr. Kpenu added that these false rumours seem to be spread by individuals seeking attention and popularity on social media, at the expense of the university’s reputation and harmony.
The university’s management has called on students, staff, stakeholders, and the public to ignore these fake stories and avoid sharing misleading information.
UNIPORT also stated that it is actively monitoring and reporting anyone spreading falsehoods to authorities. The institution remains dedicated to providing a safe, secure environment conducive to learning, research, and all legitimate activities.
