Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has provided an update on his efforts to mobilize Southeast and national political leaders for the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaign, calling for coordinated action toward the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement shared via his verified X page on Wednesday, Sowore revealed that he personally reached out to several key figures, including Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, and Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi.

“Alex Otti and Soludo neither took my calls nor responded to my messages. They promised to tell Mr. Peter Obi about our plans, although he is currently traveling,” Sowore wrote.

He added that he also contacted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, while Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe promised to return his call. Sowore noted that he spoke directly with Hon. Obinna Agwuocha of the House of Representatives, who was “receptive and encouraging.”

According to him, members of the Abia State House of Assembly indicated that they would be traveling to London next week before proceeding to Abuja to visit the Attorney General of the Federation over the matter.

“They didn’t anticipate a ‘placard’ protest, but that’s fine; what matters most is that we agree on a unified date for action,” he said.

“If we genuinely believe that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu deserves freedom, then every leader of conscience must act, now, not later,” he concluded.
