Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, have received a whopping ₦6 million reward after thrashing Algeria 4–0 in the first leg of their final-round qualifier for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The dominant win, which took place on home soil, was powered by a brilliant brace from Queen Joseph, while Zainab Raji and Aishat Animashaun each added a goal to complete the rout.
The outstanding performance not only brought Nigeria closer to a ticket to Morocco 2025 but also attracted financial recognition.
NFF + Private Support = ₦6 Million Boost
To celebrate the team’s efforts, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) awarded the girls ₦2 million, while billionaire businessman and sports enthusiast Kunle Soname stepped in with an extra ₦4 million, bringing the total to ₦6 million.
Second Leg Showdown in Algeria
The Flamingos will travel to Bilda, Algeria, for the all-important second leg of the qualifier, scheduled for Friday. A win or even a solid draw will be enough to book Nigeria’s place at the upcoming World Cup.
