Vinícius Júnior has issued a strong statement condemning racism following events that overshadowed a recent match involving Real Madrid.
In his remarks, the Brazilian forward described racists as “cowards,” saying:
“Racists are, above all, cowards. They need to put their shirts in their mouths to show how weak they are. But they have the protection of others who, theoretically, have an obligation to punish them.”
Vinícius also expressed frustration over receiving a yellow card for celebrating a goal, stating he does not understand the reasoning behind the booking.
He criticized what he described as a “poorly executed protocol,” suggesting that measures intended to address racist incidents were ineffective.
Despite the controversy, Vinícius emphasized that he would have preferred the focus to remain on Real Madrid’s performance and victory rather than off-field issues.
The winger has been a vocal advocate against racism in football, repeatedly calling for stronger action from authorities to combat discriminatory behavior in stadiums.
