A violent clash erupted in Jigawa State, resulting in the deaths of nine people and leaving four others injured. The incident occurred on January 3, 2025, in Gululu village, Miga Local Government Area (LGA), and Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.
According to reports, a group of miscreants suspected to be Fulani broke into a shop and stole a quantity of hibiscus and other provisions. The villagers, predominantly Hausawa, traced the thieves to a Fulani settlement camp and were met with violence, including bow and arrow attacks, which left four people seriously injured.
In retaliation, the villagers attacked the Fulanis, setting their houses ablaze in various locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs. Police officers from the Miga and Jahun Divisions were deployed to the scene to restore peace and order.
The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, visited the scene of the crime, accompanied by senior officers. A stakeholder meeting was convened, attended by local government officials, traditional leaders, and Miyetti Allah leadership, to address the violence and promote peace.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and patrols have been increased in the area to prevent further violence. The Commissioner of Police has assured that justice will be served.
