Nigerian professional chess player, Tunde Onakoya, has offered to sponsor the education of the 11-year-old girl who accompanied her mother to her sweeping job in an Ikoyi estate.
Recall that a video featuring a mother and her daughter went viral after an activist named Adetoun spotted the 11-year-old girl helping her mother sweep an estate as early as 4:30 AM.
She confronted the mother and claimed she was using her daughter for child labour, which is not acceptable.

In response to the viral video, Tunde shared a similar experience with his mother and explained how he helped her while preventing others from discovering they took on menial jobs to make ends meet.
The chess player expressed his displeasure toward the activist’s cruelty of humiliating the mother in the presence of her child, recording it, and even posting it on social media for public opinion.
He agreed that the child shouldn’t be working, but the mother and daughter deserve human compassion and help, not outrage or criticism. Tunde concluded by offering the 11-year-old girl an education scholarship till the university level.CONTINUE READING
