The 41-year-old coach has agreed to a contract that will keep him at the Spanish club until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. His hiring comes after the dismissal of Ruben Baraja, who led the team to only two wins out of 17 matches this season.
Message from West Brom
In an official announcement, West Brom expressed their gratitude, stating that Corberan is leaving “with the club’s gratitude and best wishes.” Meanwhile, assistant coaches Chris Brunt, Damia Abella, and Boaz Myhill will manage the team on an interim basis as the club searches for a new head coach.
Corberan’s Reflections
Following his appointment at Valencia, Corberan took to social media to express his feelings about departing West Brom. He described the decision as “the hardest of my life” and added, “There will always be a place in my heart for this special club and I hope one day I can return to thank you all for your incredible support.”
Career Highlights
Previously, Corberan managed Huddersfield Town before joining West Brom in October 2022. He successfully concluded his first season in charge with a ninth-place finish, and his second season saw them finish fifth, narrowly missing promotion after losing to Southampton in the play-off semi-finals. This season, he had West Brom in seventh place in the Championship table, just outside the play-off positions, despite dealing with a 30% reduction in his squad’s budget.
Future Challenges
Although there were rumors linking him to a managerial role at Southampton, the Premier League club opted for Ivan Juric as their new manager instead. Now, Corberan faces the task of steering his hometown club, Valencia, away from relegation; they are currently in second-to-last place in La Liga, four points adrift of safety.
