Israel established a secret military outpost in Iraq’s western desert with U.S. knowledge ahead of the war with Iran.
The base was used by Israeli special forces and search-and-rescue teams in case pilots were downed during operations over Iran.
Iraqi troops nearly discovered the site in early March after reports of unusual helicopter activity in the area. Israeli forces allegedly carried out airstrikes to keep Iraqi units away from the outpost.
