Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed satisfaction with the spirit of unity and selflessness within the emerging political coalition challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, El-Rufai said he feels encouraged by the maturity and focus demonstrated by members of the coalition, noting that no one has placed personal ambition above the broader national interest.
“I feel empowered and encouraged by the leadership attitude of the coalition,” he said.
“Nobody is talking about their aspirations. Nobody is saying, ‘I want to be president,’ or ‘leave this for me.’ Everyone is committed to rescuing Nigeria.”
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory hailed what he described as a “purpose-driven” approach to nation-building, emphasizing that the coalition is prioritizing Nigeria’s future over political calculations.
Political Realignments Ahead of 2027
El-Rufai’s comments come amid growing speculation over the formation of a Third Force, with prominent political figures reportedly in talks to build a strong opposition platform ahead of the next elections.
He said the coalition’s focus remains on building a credible alternative that would deliver good governance and restore citizens’ trust in public leadership.
“This is unlike what we’ve seen in the past. There is a strong sense of responsibility. The conversation is about how to move the country forward, not about positions or power.”
While he did not mention specific names involved in the coalition, insiders suggest discussions are ongoing among influential leaders from across party lines and civil society.
