33 Years Old Army Officer Arrested for Stealing Toyota Corolla in Abuja

A serving soldier of the Nigerian Army has been arrested in the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla and attempting to sell it without proper documentation.

The suspect, identified as Lance Corporal Yusuf Yunnusa, aged 33, is attached to the 82 Battalion in Rukuba, Plateau State, according to intelligence obtained by Leadnaija via Zagazola Makama.

Yunnusa was apprehended at about 4:30 PM on April 19, 2025, at Mamu Filling Station in Lambata, Kwali Area Council, following a tip-off about a suspicious attempt to sell a vehicle under questionable circumstances.

Security operatives swiftly launched a surveillance operation that led to his arrest. Recovered from the suspect was a Toyota Corolla LE, ash in color, with registration number ABC 570 FJ.

During interrogation, Yunnusa reportedly confessed to stealing the vehicle from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja on April 17, 2025, around 12:00 PM. He admitted he had driven the car to Kwali with the intent to sell it before police intervened.

The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing further interrogation. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine whether he acted alone or was part of a wider car theft ring.

The Nigerian Army is yet to issue an official statement on the arrest.
