60 Years Old Teacher, Arraigned For Defiling Mentally Challenged Girl At Special Academy

Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested a 60-year old man, Akeem Owolabi, and charged him for allegedly engaging an 18-year old mentally challenged teenager in his care by penetration at a Special School for two days.

LeadNaija reports that the incident happened between 5th and 7th May, 2025 at Story Academy for Special Education Needs at Arowojobe Estate, Mende Maryland, Lagos.

The Police alleged that the suspect, who was supposed to take care of the victim, allegedly molested her for two days by engaging her in sex before he was caught.

The matter was reported to the Police in the area. The Police operatives arrested him and transferred the matter to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

The Police at the Gender Section found him culpable after rounds of interrogation and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charge read:

“That you, Akeem Owolabi ‘m’ between 5th day of May to 7th day of May, 2025, at Story Academy for Special Education Needs at Arowojobe Estate, Mende Maryland, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did take advantage of the victim ‘f 18 years old, who is vulnerable in nature and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till 1st July, 2025, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
