Arrested OAU Students During Protesting Against Wike Released

Two students of the Obafemi Awolowo University who were picked up by the Department of State Services (DSS) have been released.

The students – Oladepo Joshua and Ejike Kelechi – were released by the police in the late hours of Thursday, June 5.

Messers Joshua and Kelechi were whisked away by operatives of the DSS following their protest against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The students had in protest of demolition houses by the minister raised their placards while Wike made a speech at the institution.

In their protest, the students asked the Minister to compensate the people whom he had their houses demolished.

The duo were arrested by the DSS and later handed over to the police at the Moore division in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

It was, however, gathered that the police were forced to release the students after their colleagues stormed the premises of the Moore Police Division in a follow-up protest.

The students, in their numbers, threatened to shut down the police station should they fail to release their schoolmates.

Several Nigerians and human rights activists have condemned the arrest of the students.

They had also called for the immediate release of the students arrested by the DSS for protesting against the minister.
