Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He announced his defection in an event that took place at the Government House, Uyo, on Friday, June 6.
The defection ceremony drew key APC leaders from across the country.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” Eno said.
“We’re not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State. We’ve come into the APC with a ministry of reconciliation,” the governor added.
Elected under the PDP in 2023 and previously viewed as a protégé of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, Eno’s decision marks a dramatic realignment in Akwa Ibom’s political structure.
Among those present are Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo. Also in attendance was Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
With the development, the states under the control of the PDP has been reduced to just ten: Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, and Zamfara.
