Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Accuses Bauchi Varsity Of Breaching MoU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi branch, has accused the university management of failing to implement the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached six months ago to suspend an indefinite strike.

The union, in a communiqué issued at the end of its congress, expressed dismay over what it described as the administration’s “deliberate attempts” to frustrate the timely implementation of the agreement.

The statement, jointly signed by the branch chairman, Comrade Auwal Nuhu, and assistant secretary, Comrade Yahaya Yakubu, alleged that despite an increase in funding to the university, key obligations in the MoU remain unmet.

“The congress observed, with concern, the calculated efforts by the university administration to undermine the progress of the MoU within the agreed timeline,” the communiqué read.

The union said half of the agreed timeline had elapsed, yet a large portion of outstanding entitlements had not been paid. It also accused the university of shifting timelines and withholding essential information about verified arrears meant for payment.

According to the union, the administration has refused to engage transparently with ASUU and has resorted to using the withholding of salaries as a tactic to frustrate its members.

“The management has deliberately refused to disburse salaries as part of its stalling strategy. However, ASUU remains committed to the full implementation of the MoU,” the union said.

Efforts to get a reaction from the university’s spokesperson, Auwal Hassan, proved abortive as calls and messages were not returned at the time of filing this report.
