The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumyiwa Adejobi, believes that activism is not a profession.
Taking to his social media page to share his thoughts, Adejobi warned Nigerians to be cautious of individuals who claim to be activists but do not have a profession.
He wrote on his X page on Friday, βActivism is not a profession….. beware of any activist who doesn’t have a profession.β
The post has generated massive reactions from Nigerians, with many disagreeing with his stance and criticising the Police Force.
@SamuelEkpeowoh: It’s disheartening to see such a misguided statement @Princemoye1. Activism is not only a noble pursuit but a vital one that drives societal progress and change. To dismiss it as “not a profession” undermines the tireless efforts of countless individuals fighting for justice, equality, and human rights. Professional activism is indeed a respected career path, essential for holding powerful institutions accountable. Rather than sowing distrust, we should recognize and support those who dedicate their lives to making the world a better place. #RespectActivism #SupportActivists
@TowFunFun: Police is not a money making scheme
Beware of police who suddenly becomes rich
@iam_arinzona: Activities are not extortion. We’ll worry more about the profession that extortion entrepreneurs their hard earned money.
@MezieAbia: Extortion is not part of policing profession either. Beware of any police man who extorts money from you for bail in the police station or for vehicle particulars on the highway.
@deluxe_k: Most activists have a means of livelihood, and the well-known ones in Nigeria have verifiable jobs.
@JimRezzz: Beware of any police who is using an iPhone 13 pro.
Their salaries can’t afford that type of phone, and so they are thiefs who enrich their self by extortion of Nigerian citizens.
@Ehis_Bukaty: Extortion and bribery is not a profession. Beware of police men who owns properties with salaries less than 300k monthly.
@djokaymegamixer: I can imagine what Nigeria would have turned to in the hands of those who would rather extort, oppress, and repress the people instead of protecting them if not for some activists.
@iamolyjosh: Police is not a private business, beware of some pot belly, bolΔkaja ajirebi individuals that thinks they will be there forever
@theboyisgreat: Extortion, lies, and propaganda are not the way of life…. beware of any thugs parading himself as a policeman..
