During Tuesday’s Senate session, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his leadership, stating:
“Those who felt that by now, this Senate would have asked you to step down can see now that we are focused on what we are doing.”
In a firm response, Akpabio dismissed any notions of resignation over unproven claims:
“Who told you I was going to step down? I’m not one of those people who will step down due to false allegations. When it’s proven that the allegations are false, they say, ‘Oh, we were unfair to Akpabio.’ So, if you have that in mind, please cancel it.”
Akpabio’s remarks appear to address rumors and pressure stemming from ongoing political controversies, reaffirming his commitment to his role and to the Senate’s legislative agenda.
