The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
In a press statement released on Sunday, the spokesman for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the suspects were apprehended in separate operations.
He added that a locally made Beretta pistol and a suspected stolen vehicle were recovered during the operations.
Ikenga attributed the arrests to the ongoing security operational review and safety measures implemented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, which he said are beginning to expose the “undesirable elements” in the state.
The statement read in part: “In separate operations, police have arrested a total of five suspects in a case of kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and a suspected stolen vehicle.”
He disclosed that in the early hours of February 22, 2025, police operatives attached to a Special Anti-Cultism Squad raided a criminal hideout at Igbariam and arrested three suspects: “Miracle Chukwunoso, Chinweze Charles, and Bonaventure Chigozie — all males aged between 20 and 26. The team also recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol from them.”
The suspects were positively identified by victims who had been attacked and dispossessed of their belongings. A total sum of N254,000 was withdrawn from one of the victim’s accounts on February 21, 2025, along Otoko, Igbariam.
In another development, police operatives attached to the 3-3 Police Divisional Headquarters on February 16, 2025, at 2 pm, responded swiftly to a kidnapping incident and rescued the victim near Ejison Fuel Station along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
In a follow-up operation, the police arrested two suspects (names withheld to aid further investigation) and recovered an “Ash-coloured Toyota Corolla” allegedly belonging to the victim at a mechanic workshop in the 3-3 Area.
According to the victim, the “armed men forcefully withdrew over N1 million from his account during his captivity and took his two phones, valued at N820,000.”
Ikenga assured that all suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
