The Department of State Services (DSS) has summoned Comrade Jamiu Olayinka, a leader of the Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum, for questioning over a lawsuit against the Lagos State government regarding the $100 million paid by Aliko Dangote for land acquisition. Olayinka was invited to the DSS office on Thursday, where he was asked about the case and his involvement. According to a statement signed by the Media Officer of De Renaissance Patriots Foundation in Lagos State, he stated that he has every right to sue the Lagos State government and showed his registered certificate with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The statement reads, “Although he was not detained, his people had insisted that he should give them all the details of what transpired as they had told him before he left for their office that they suspected the invitation was due to the Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum’s involvement in the suit against Lagos State regarding the Dangote Refinery’s $100 million paid to the state government over the natives land taken without compensation and claimed to have been given free for the Dangote’s refinery building some nine years ago. “As predicted by the people, Comrade Jamiu Olayinka confirmed their thought as right. He said, ‘I was asked about the case and I told them we are not going back. I told the (DSS) man that I have every right to sue Lagos State Government for the issues. “’And he asked to know what can we use to back up our Association and I showed him our registered certificate with CAC. He became perplexed when he saw the registered certification. “’Their plan is to pressure us to back out from joining the case against the Lagos State Government but we will not bow to any intimidation,” he relayed his experience with DSS to his people Thursday afternoon.” The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, seeks to compel the Lagos State government to provide a comprehensive account of the transaction and address critical questions surrounding Dangote’s claim. Meanwhile, lawyers representing the Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum have expressed concern over the Lagos State government’s failure to provide answers to questions regarding the $100 million payment, instead resorting to using the DSS to intimidate their clients.

Joseph Duza, a lawmaker of the Niger House of Assembly is dead. Duza’s passing was announced in a statement by the head of media and public relations of the Niger State House of Assembly, Farouq Isah, in Minna on Friday, September 13. A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, the late lawmaker represented the people of Munya constituency of Niger State. The statement by the House said before his death, Duza was the Chairman of the House Committee on Security and Intelligence. It also said that the late lawmaker died after a brief illness. Isah, in the statement, prayed to God to grant Duza’s soul eternal rest and give the leadership, members, and staff of the assembly, his family as well as Munya constituents, the fortitude to bear the loss.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the promotion of 20,867 senior personnel across four major security agencies: the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS). The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Friday, September 13. Tunji-Ojo also revealed that special promotions have been approved for nine officers—two from the NCoS, four from the NIS, two from the NSCDC, and one from the FFS—in recognition of their exemplary service. Promotion Breakdown: NCoS: 5,329 officers promoted. NIS: 5,112 officers promoted. NSCDC: 9,937 officers promoted. FFS: 489 officers promoted. With the forthcoming Local Government election in Kano State, candidates have been mandated to undergo psychiatric evaluation. This was disclosed by the chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Sani Malumfashi on Friday at a press briefing in Kano. According to Malumfashi, all candidates contesting the local government poll in the State must undergo the evaluation before participating in the October 26 elections. Recall that the commision had earlier conducted drug tests on the aspirants contesting for chairmanship and councilorship elections. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a 26-year-old man, Ibrahim Mohammed wanted for stealing the commission’s vehicle. The commission disclosed this in a short post signed by its Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, with a picture of the suspect on its page. According to the EFCC, Mohammed is an indigene of Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The post did not state whether the suspect is a staff of the anti-graft agency. It did not, also state how the suspect stole the vehicle. It asked members of the public with useful information as to his whereabouts to contact the EFCC or the nearest police station.
