Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has unveiled a transformative health initiative called ‘5 Star Care’, aimed at supporting individuals living with sickle cell disorder.
In partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Sickle Cell Management Initiative, the program will offer free health insurance to 1,000 Lagos residents affected by the condition.
Speaking at the launch, Adekunle Gold, who has been open about his own journey with sickle cell, emphasized that the project is about more than just medical support—it’s a personal mission.
“‘5 Star Care’ isn’t just an initiative, it’s a promise — a promise to ensure that sickle cell warriors are seen, heard, and cared for. We’re starting small by providing free health insurance to 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos State. But this is only the beginning,” the singer stated.
The initiative has received praise from both the health sector and the public, marking a major step forward in the fight for better care and visibility for those living with the hereditary blood disorder.
Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Health commended the partnership, calling it a “model for private-public collaboration” in healthcare advocacy.
