Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Senate Deputy Chief Whip representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, has called for the establishment of an additional state in Nigeria’s Southeast region, emphasising the importance of equity and fairness.

Speaking at the Senate Committee on Constitution Review retreat in Kano, Nwebonyi argued that creating a new state would foster peace and stability in the region, stating, “This call is not just about division but about equitable representation.”

In his remarks, Nwebonyi opposed the idea of state police, asserting that the Nigerian Police force can effectively police the country if adequately equipped.
