The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun, has declared the 2025 Doctrine and Training Command (TRADOC) Conference of the Nigerian Army open in Minna, emphasising that the welfare of soldiers is a priority under his leadership. He stated that a well-motivated soldier is essential to overcoming the current security challenges facing the country.

Lt. Gen. Olatubosun addressed soldiers of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and the 31 Field Artillery Brigade, Minna Cantonment, after the opening ceremony at the TRADOC headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday.

He highlighted that prioritising soldiers’ welfare, particularly in accommodation, enhanced salaries, and regular training, stems from the belief that “there can be no officers without soldiers.” He stressed that improving soldiers’ welfare is crucial to enable them to confront the country’s security challenges effectively.

Acknowledging the range of security challenges facing Nigeria, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, farmer-herder conflicts, economic crimes, and secessionist agitations, Lt. Gen. Olatubosun stated that the Nigerian Army has prioritised equipment upgrades and manpower boosts in the past decade. He stressed the importance of adapting training methods to effectively utilise modern equipment against evolving threats.

Lt. Gen. Olatubosun urged participants at the conference to critically assess the current security and defence environments, evaluate the training curriculum, and propose improvements. He emphasised that the conference’s theme, “Understanding Nigerian Army Doctrine for Effective Training within a Joint Environment,” aligns with his command philosophy, which focuses on leadership, sound administration, professionalism, and combat readiness.

He reiterated his commitment to improving the quality of leadership and instruction across all Army training establishments. He assured that the Army Headquarters would address accommodation, training aids, and welfare packages for instructors and students in the coming months. He emphasised that rigorous training during peace times is crucial to reducing casualties in war.

In his welcoming address, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aigbe, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, noted that the conference is part of fulfilling the training pillar of the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy. He highlighted the need for tailored approaches to develop the capacity to address Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges. He stressed the importance of collaboration with other services, government security agencies, and non-governmental stakeholders.

The conference’s highlight was the unveiling of a manual on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear warfare, produced by the Training and Doctrine Command. Read Full Details..
