A female suicide bomber has killed 24 people and injured several others in a devastating night-time attack on a local food joint in Konduga town, Borno State, about 36 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital.
The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025.
According to reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attacker detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a spot where dozens of residents had gathered to purchase food.
“The explosion caused instant fatalities, with 24 persons confirmed dead at the scene. Many others sustained various injuries,” police sources said.
- The body of the bomber was shredded in the blast, with only her head recovered.

Victims Evacuated to Teaching Hospital
The injured were rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where they are currently receiving treatment. The corpses of the deceased were also deposited at the hospital mortuary. Hospital officials are currently profiling the victims for identification and release to families for burial in line with religious practices.

Authorities have assured that security has been reinforced across Konduga town to prevent further attacks. The attack underscores the persistent threat of insurgency in the region, despite ongoing counter-terror operations.
