Israeli officials have claimed responsibility for conducting military strikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities located in Bushehr, Isfahan, and Natanz, marking a dramatic escalation in ongoing regional hostilities.
The Bushehr facility, home to Iran’s only operational civilian nuclear power plant, has drawn particular international concern.
The Bushehr-1 reactor, built with Russian cooperation and managed by Rosatom, has been operational since 2013 and is currently under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Additional reactors are reportedly under construction at the site.
Following reports of the attack, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev issued a grave warning, stating:
> “If the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran is struck, the resulting disaster would be comparable to Chernobyl — this must not be allowed.”
No immediate confirmation has been made by Iranian authorities regarding the extent of the reported damage or potential casualties. The IAEA has also not yet commented.
The reported strikes on Isfahan and Natanz—both known to house sensitive nuclear infrastructure—raise further fears of a broader conflict and potential nuclear safety crisis, should any radiological materials be compromised.
International diplomatic channels are expected to respond swiftly as the situation unfolds.
