A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced popular TikTok personality, Abubakar Usman Kilina, to one year imprisonment.
The judgment, delivered on Friday followed charges brought against Kilina in connection with content he posted on the social media platform, which authorities say violated public decency and other legal provisions under Kano State law.

While details of the charges remain partly undisclosed at press time, sources familiar with the proceedings confirmed that Kilina was found guilty and sentenced without the option of a fine.
The verdict has sparked conversation across social media platforms, with many of Kilina’s followers expressing concern over freedom of expression and the growing clampdown on online personalities in Northern Nigeria.
