The Nigerian Armed Forces have deployed a total of 197 soldiers to the Republic of The Gambia as part of an ECOWAS peacekeeping operation, aimed at supporting stability and security in the West African nation.
According to a report by AIT News, the deployment forms part of Nigeria’s continued commitment to regional peacekeeping obligations under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG)—a military and political initiative established to uphold democratic governance and regional security.
The troops, drawn from various units within the Nigerian Army, were dispatched after completing rigorous pre-deployment training focused on rules of engagement, human rights, and inter-cultural communication
