Authorities in Kwara State have confirmed a jailbreak at the Juvenile Correctional Centre in Oko Erin, resulting in the escape of nine out of eleven inmates in custody. The incident reportedly occurred late on Friday, April 19, 2025.
According to intelligence sources cited by Leadnaija, the escape was reported around 10:00 PM by a facility staff member, Joseph Issa. Law enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the scene following the alert.
In the swift response operation, police successfully re-arrested one of the escapees, identified as 15-year-old Abdul Raman Misa. He has since been returned to the facility, while eight other fugitives remain at large.
Security agencies have launched a manhunt for the escaped inmates, and an investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances that led to the breach in security at the juvenile centre.
The Kwara State Police Command has not yet released an official statement on whether negligence or internal complicity is suspected. However, sources say disciplinary actions may follow depending on the outcome of the ongoing probe.
Residents in the surrounding area are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to local authorities.
Leadnaija will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
