Speaking in an exclusive interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, February 11, he disclosed his meeting with the president lasted for almost an hour and 40 minutes which is typically more than the 15 minutes allotted to visitors.
According to him, President Tinubu opened up on the issues affecting the country which made him understand the challenges and how the administration was preparing to solve them.
He said: “But I was privileged among many millions of Nigerians on the 10th of January when I met the president face to face. The meeting was supposed to be for 15 minutes. That’s the official protocol. He was gracious. We spent about an hour and 40 minutes. And do you know, as soon as I walked in, the president started by dealing with the issues I have been raising and criticizing him.”
“So he explained to me why he took those decisions because when he took the oath of office, there was no money on the ground. There’s no way you can kickstart this government. You have to find a way of revenue, to get revenue. Two, nobody was willing to borrow us. We were at 73 trillion. So you have to put in policies that will convince.”
“Investors and those that will borrow you money that you are serious and to be able to do that the immediate thing that was supposed to be done at these fundamentals of the economy that he felt he needed to reshape and he said he knew that that decision will hurt the masses, but it is a temporary pain and I believe him.”
