CIoTA: Ogun Committed To Intelligent Transport System

Commissioner for Trans­portation and Chairman of the Nigerian Transport Commissioners Forum, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo has pledged the Forum’s com­mitment to achieving the objectives of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) ini­tiative.

This commitment was contained in a Press Release issued after an engagement meeting of Stakeholders in the transport sectors across the Country, which focused on actionable strategies for implementing ITS in Nige­ria.

According to the release, the Commissioner empha­sised the critical role of data collection, political will and collaborative efforts in revolutionising Nigeria’s Road Transport Sector, with a pledge to translate the Theme of the event, ‘In­telligent Transport System’ to a reality.

He enjoined all Stake­holders, including gov­ernment agencies, Private Sector players, and Civil societies, to work together towards realising a safer and more efficient trans­port system, revealing the importance of Political Will in the successful implemen­tation of ITS, describing it as the ‘live wire’ of the ini­tiative.

“Political will is the live wire of the Intelligent Transport System. Without it, even the best plans will remain on paper. We must unite to push for the neces­sary policies, funding, and enforcement mechanisms to make it a reality in Nige­ria,” he added.

Present at the meeting were, members of the Char­tered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA), State Commission­ers and representatives of the Nigeria Transport Com­missioners Forum (NTCF), Federal Road Safety Com­mission (FRSC), Joint Tax Board (JTB), Vehicle Inspec­tion Services (VIS), among others.
