Kenny Okonlugbo, Consultant for Communications and Strategy at the Office of the President of the Senate, has dismissed recent calls from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step aside. Okonlugbo, speaking on the issue, referred to the ongoing criticisms as part of a coordinated campaign against Akpabio.
“There is a campaign by columnists against Akpabio,” Okonlugbo stated, addressing the growing pressure on the Senate President following accusations of misconduct. His comments reflect the government’s stance against what they see as an organized effort to discredit the Senate President.
CSOs and several public figures have recently called for Akpabio’s resignation amid various allegations. However, Okonlugbo’s response suggests that the criticisms are politically motivated, aimed at undermining Akpabio’s leadership.
The situation is expected to escalate, with calls for further investigation into the matter. However, the Office of the President of the Senate has stood firm, with Okonlugbo reiterating their position that the calls are part of a broader smear campaign.
