Babatunde Bank-Anthony, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to settle the leadership tussle that has engulfed the state assembly....Donβt Miss Out! CLICK HERE TO KEEP READING..>>
He made this known during an interview on Channels Televisionβs Sunrise Daily program on Tuesday, February 18.
According to him, the governor must be seen acting on the situation that could taint the democratic gains made by the state over the years.
βI expect the governor as well to say something about this. He is the number one man in Lagos State. He cannot ignore what happened yesterday because that is the parliament that he reports to, that is the parliament that makes the laws for the state he is governing,β Bank-Anthony said.
βThe governor should speak up about this issue to the right quarters,β he argued.
His reaction follows the raid of the Lagos State House of Assembly by men of the Department of State Security (DSS) and policemen following the leadership tussle that started after the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the House.
The security officials prevented lawmakers from gaining access to the chambers.
They, however, gained access to the chambers after hours of tussling with Speaker Mojisola Meranda later presiding over the plenary session in the Alausa area of Lagos.
While observers have called on President Bola Tinubu to wade into the leadership tussle tearing the Assembly apart, the APC chieftain says the Nigerian leader should walk with caution.
Bank-Anthony said that since political hierarchies exist in governance, President Tinubu may be cautious about making a statement about the crisis to avoid being seen as taking sides.
