Beginning on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, the Lagos State government plans to launch a 500 million intervention fund called “Ounje Eko,” a farmers’ subsidy program.
Abisola Olusanya, the state commissioner for agriculture and food systems, made this known on Wednesday at an Alausa Ikeja press conference.
She stated that the Lagos State farmers’ subsidy program aims to provide over 23 million Lagos State residents with affordable, domestic food.
In order to ensure fair product pricing for end users, she says the intervention program will be put into place in consultation with the private sector and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Olusanya explained that the state government will provide farmers with a 25% subsidy for animal feed when they sell their products.
Farmers of poultry, crops, and fish are supported by the government by providing tractor services for crop production as well as the distribution of fertilizer bags.
The commissioner added that the program’s goals are to maintain and increase production levels, maintain a steady supply of poultry and fish products on the market, stop further farm closures, and combat food insecurity in the state.Tap Here To Read Full Details
