EDO: Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo Accused Of Last-Minute Looting, Shady Deals

Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has raised an alarm over alleged shady loan deals and looting of government assets by officials in the outgoing Godwin Obaseki administration.

With handover less than a month away, Okpebholo warned banks and financial institutions to halt loan approvals for the outgoing government.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Okpebholo expressed concern over reports of loan acquisitions under suspicious headings and widespread looting of government properties, including vehicles, furniture, and gadgets.

He said, β€œIt is sad that barely one month to handover, the out-going administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki is still allegedly obtaining loans from banks and other financial institutions under very shady headings.

β€œWe are also aware of the massive looting and vandalisation of properties, including vehicles, furniture, gadgets, household utensils and even carpets from offices and residences of the Edo State Government.

β€œThis unacceptable behaviour undermines the trust and faith of our citizens in those entrusted to serve them in the past eight years.”

He called on relevant authorities, including the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Department of State Service (DSS), and police, to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.

The governor-elect pleaded that assets in the Government House and offices should be protected from vandals, adding that the incoming administration would continue to monitor the situation.
