An official of Edo State Fire Service, Andrew Omotor, Tuesday, died after a building collapsed on him while he was putting out fire at a residential house.
Another official, who was said to have suffered injuries from the building collapse is reportedly receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
LeadNaija gathered that the incident occurred when the duo were responding to a distress call in the early hours of last Friday, at the said building, located on Evbuotubu community, near Benin City, the state capital.
The Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sympathised with the family of the late firefighter and commended the deceased for his bravery, dedication, and sacrifice.
Okpebholo stated this during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Benin City.
The governor who was represented by the state Head of Service, Dr. Andrew Okungbowa, stated: “We are here to commiserate with the family of one of our fallen heroes, Mr. Andrew Omotor, who died tragically in the line of duty.
“Omotor responded to a distress call to save lives and properties but, sadly, lost his life in the process. Another firefighter sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at UBTH.
“He was 45-year-old and he left behind a wife, six children, and an elderly mother who are struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss of their breadwinner,” he said.Tap Here To Read Full Details
