The fundamental rights suit marked: FHC/KN/CS/41/2025 filed before the Federal High Court No. 3, Kano State, is coming up for hearing on March 6, 2025.
The respondents in the suit are; the Nigeria Police Force; the Commissioner of Police, Kano State; the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Director of DSS, Kano State.
The Organising Secretary of NPFM, Yusha’u Sani Yankuzo, who made this known in a statement issued on Friday said that they filed the suit in view of their commitment to upholding the constitutional rights of Nigerians, and their own torturous experience in the hands of President Tinubu’s administration.
Yankuzo recalled that on September 30, 2024, six young Nigerian activists: Comrade Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu; Barr. Yusha’u Sani Yankuzo; Barr. Amina Bello; Comrade Anas Ado Ahmad; Comrade Sani Ibrahim Narogo, and Comrade Abdullahi Adamu Mandawari, were abruptly arrested by the combined forces of DSS and the Police in Kano State.
They were transported under armed police escort to the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, and detained for two grueling days in connection with the October 1 #EndBadGovernance protests.
Yankuzo said, “While in detention, the six peaceful protest organisers were subjected to interrogations. Subsequently they were released.
“Since then, we have noticed that the protest space is narrowing in Nigeria.
“Citizens’ voice and media freedoms are under increasing threats of being silenced by regime authorities.”
Yankuzo added that they filed the suit to reassert, defend and advance the rights of Nigerians to peacefully protest without arrest, molestation, and rights violations by the Nigerian government and their agents.
“It is therefore about our collective human rights and not just that of the six members of the NPFM directly involved in the matter,” Yankuzo said.Tap Here for the Full Story
He added, “We should not allow the present administration to criminalise protest in the country.
“We call on all human rights champions and progressive forces in the country and beyond who believe in the rule of law and the constitutional order to rally behind this landmark case under the current regime to reclaim our rights to peaceful protest before we lose it by default.”
