Lagos, Nigeria – ENL Consortium, operators of a major cargo terminal at the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa, has denied reports that a vessel caught fire at its facility, clarifying that a controlled smoke emission from a ship’s hatch was swiftly contained without any injuries or property damage.
In an official statement released Saturday, the company described the reports of a fire outbreak as “exaggerated and misleading,” emphasizing that no naked flame was present during the incident.
“There was absolutely no naked fire on the ship. The smoke was quickly traced, and our emergency response team acted immediately in line with established safety protocols. The situation was promptly brought under control,” ENL said.
The terminal operator assured stakeholders that all operations remain safe and uninterrupted, noting that the incident showcased its robust emergency preparedness and adherence to international safety standards.
ENL also criticized the spread of inaccurate media reports and urged the public to verify information before sharing, adding that its commitment to safety, personnel welfare, and cargo integrity remains unwavering.
As one of Nigeria’s leading port terminal operators, ENL handles thousands of tonnes of cargo annually and plays a key role in the nation’s maritime logistics chain.
