Kylian Mbappe’s incredible form continued as he netted his 10th La Liga goal of the season in Real Madrid’s 4-2 victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The French forward opened the scoring early, blasting a remarkable shot from outside the box into the top corner, leaving Sevilla’s goalkeeper helpless.
Federico Valverde doubled Madrid’s lead just 10 minutes later with a powerful strike from 30 yards, before Rodrygo made it 3-0 in the 34th minute, finishing off a beautiful team move with a composed finish for his third goal in as many matches.
Sevilla’s hopes of a comeback were revived just before the break when Isaac Romero headed home Juanlu Sanchez’s cross, reducing the deficit to 3-1.
However, Madrid quickly restored their advantage after halftime. A smooth team buildup saw Mbappe lay the ball off for Brahim Diaz, who slotted home to make it 4-1.
In a moment for Sevilla, 39-year-old Jesus Navas took to the pitch for the final time in his career in the 65th minute, receiving the captain’s armband.
The emotional occasion was celebrated by the 75,000 fans in attendance.
Sevilla managed a second goal late in the match, with a perfectly timed through-ball from Peque Fernandez finding Dodi Lukebakio, who squeezed the ball past Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid will now enjoy a two-week break, with their next fixture against Valencia scheduled for January 3, 2025.
Sevilla, on the other hand, will turn their focus to Copa del Rey action against Almeria the following day.
