The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, also announced that 10,000 water pumps, knapsack sprayers, herbicides, pesticides, and organic fertilizers would be provided to farmers in Jigawa State.
He said, “Yesterday, at the Green Field Day celebration in Dabi Village, Ringim Local Government Area, I reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to agricultural transformation and food security with the distribution of N5 billion worth of farm equipment and inputs to support farmers in Jigawa State.
“Jigawa State has been at the forefront of agricultural productivity, particularly in wheat farming and environmental conservation efforts. Under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, FCA, the state has made remarkable progress in food production, including its ambitious plan to plant one million date trees for environmental sustainability.
“The Federal Government, in partnership with key stakeholders, has continued to support agricultural expansion in Jigawa. Through the National Agricultural Growth Scheme – Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP) program, the state initially secured 30,000 hectares for 2024/2025 wheat dry season farming, expanded to 40,000 hectares, and further cultivated an additional 40,000 hectares, bringing the total number of participating wheat farmers to 160,000.
“To further enhance farm productivity and mechanization, I announced the distribution of 10,000 water pumps, knapsack sprayers, herbicides, pesticides, and organic fertilizers to farmers in Jigawa State. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s vision of modernizing agriculture, ensuring food security, and boosting economic prosperity through mechanization and sustainable farming practices.
“I also called on retailers and traders to reflect the recent drop in food prices in their sales, ensuring that Nigerians benefit from affordable essential commodities like flour, rice, and spaghetti.
“The Federal Government remains steadfast in its commitment to transforming the agricultural sector through technology, mechanization, and sustainable practices. Our goal is to empower farmers, enhance food security, and drive economic growth for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
